(CLEVELAND, OH) Garick, as a member of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), participated in “Renewal & Remembrance” at Historic Congressional Cemetery on Monday, July 16, 2007. Garick donated a full truckload of Black Satin® Mulch, valued at over $2,800, to the cemetery and PLANET members used it to landscape and beautify the grounds.

Hundreds of lawn care and landscape companies from across the nation brought their crews to both the Historic Congressional Cemetery and Arlington National Cemetery and spent the day mulching, pruning, liming, planting, and aerating. Many children of PLANET members participated by planting flowers, and presenting a wreath to the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The gift of time and services is valued at more than $300,000.

“This was the most significant project that PLANET will carry out this year,” states PLANET President, Jim Martin, CLP. “The natural beauty and quiet grace of these cemeteries make them places that we feel compelled to take care of and protect. This extremely worthwhile and meaningful project demonstrates our honor and remembrance of America’s veterans and leaders.” To date, the project has given more than $1.4 million in goods, services, and labor to Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries.

Bob Schanz, Garick’s Supply Chain Director, said, “We were honored that PLANET asked us to donate our all-organic Black Satin® Mulch for their project. We are proud that we were able to contribute something to one of America’s most treasured monuments.”

Also contributing to the donation was C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., one of North America’s largest third party logistics and transportation companies. C.H. Robinson’s expertise in the transportation market made it Garick’s choice for delivery of the donation.
